James Watts Jr. is the Director of the Office of Black Catholic Ministry for the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, where he champions faith formation, intercultural leadership, and community advocacy. A native of Birmingham and an alumnus of Holy Family Catholic schools, James holds a BS in Economics from Alabama A&M University, a Master’s in Management from Faulkner University, and advanced certifications in intercultural ministry. His multi-disciplinary career spans economic development analytics for Jefferson County, K-12 and collegiate education, and youth ministry. Deeply committed to civic leadership, James serves on numerous boards—including the Pax Christi USA National Council and Urban Impact—and actively volunteers as a youth basketball coach and Boy Scouts mentor.
