In May 2024, an international group of researchers, faith leaders, policymakers, and heads
of cities, towns, governates, and provinces, gathered for a high-level summit hosted by the Vatican’s
Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences and presided by Pope Francis.
The protocol calls for a rapid acceleration “to bend the warming curve by phasing out fossil fuels and rapidly reducing greenhouse gas emissions to enable sustainable living. At the same time, we must focus our efforts on strengthening the resilience of people and ecosystems.”
