Pilgrims of Hope
To celebrate the Jubilee Year 2025 which Pope Francis has given the theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” people of faith are invited into a year-long journey of reflection, action, and renewal, grounded in Pope Francis’ call to be missionary disciples and “tangible signs of hope” for a world in crisis. The ancient tradition of Jubilee calls for liberation and restoration of both people and the land. As the Vatican explains, “[Jubilee] was intended to be marked as a time to re-establish a proper relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation, and involved the forgiveness of debts, the return of misappropriated land, and a fallow period for the fields.” Through a collaborative initiative between the Catholic Climate Covenant and The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, we seek to respond to the need for climate justice.
This initiative on Jubilee will include virtual and in-person gatherings, including workshops at the 2024 Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, and the 2025 Catholic Social Ministry Gathering. Other events will be announced here as they develop. Together, we will explore intersectional themes of climate justice, uplifting stories of frontline communities. The culmination will be a young adult Climate Summit in Rome in Fall 2025 to celebrate the Jubilee year and to synthesize insights from the year’s journey.
