WASHINGTON, D.C. — From June 18-21, 2024, the Catholic Media Association hosted their annual Catholic Media Conference, concluding with the annual prestigious award ceremony, in Atlanta June 21, recognizing the top performers in Catholic journalism across North America from 2023.
At this award ceremony, Catholic Climate Covenant’s “God Creation Needs You” video series won first place in the category Best Audio/Video Interview for the Best Interview — Video subcategory.
Catholic Climate Covenant’s “God’s Creation Needs You” is a video series produced by Armando MultiMedia in 2023, featuring six Catholic communities across the U.S. displaying creation care efforts through education, prayer, solar energy, agriculture, advocacy, community organizing, and more. This series was made possible thanks to a generous grant as part of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Catholic Communication Campaign. You can watch the preview video for this series below.
Video #1 in the series shines the light on young Catholic leaders. Video #2 in the series features Immaculate Conception Church in Hampton, Virginia, while video #3 focuses on the Creation Care Team at Mary Queen Catholic Church of Houston, Texas. Video #4 provides a glimpse into the ministry of the Franciscan Friars Conventual using sustainable farming methods in Ellicott City, Maryland. Video #5 focuses on the environmental and health issues impacting communities in “Cancer Alley” Louisiana. Video #6 focuses on the prophetic work of environmental justice movements within the Catholic Church. A new video was released every week.
Judges offered the following commentary in response to the video series at the bottom of page 20: “The individual submissions — and indeed this entire series — provides high-quality visual support of critical importance to our world today. Powerful soundbites, audio production and imagery combine to create a masterful and moving product. What little it lacks in polished interview technique in a few areas, this product more than makes up for with overall interview subject access, candor, and dramatic impact. The totality of the underlying theme and messaging, combined with the exceptional post-production of what must have been thousands of media files, is impressive!”
“Receiving this first-place award for “God’s Creation Needs You” is a testament to the power of faith and action in addressing climate change,” said Dan Misleh, Founder and Executive Director of Catholic Climate Covenant. “At the Covenant, we believe that caring for our common home is a sacred duty, rooted in the teachings of Scripture and of Laudato Si’. This recognition honors the voices of countless individuals dedicated to environmental stewardship and justice. Together, we can continue to inspire and mobilize our community to protect God’s creation for future generations. Thank you for this incredible honor and for supporting our mission to create a sustainable and just world.”
