Thank you for joining with other U.S. Catholics and responding to Pope Francis’ call for urgent climate action in Laudate Deum! Pope Leo has also joined his voice to this call.
If you have not taken the pledge yet, you can do so HERE.
To assist you with your commitments, please find below information and action steps you might find helpful to meet your commitments to substantial change.
Personal/family actions:
- Reduce my (and family’s) food waste
- Reduce my (and family‘s) meat consumption (go meatless at least on Monday and/or Fridays)
- Reduce Fossil Fuel Use: Complementary ways to reduce fossil fuels through both personal and advocacy actions.
- Pray for our common home and all who defend it:
- Prayer Inspired by Pope Francis’ Laudate Deum (Praise God) from United States Catholic Conference of Bishops
- Laudato Deum Examen from Laudato Si’ Movement
Within the Catholic Church (institutional) actions:
- Send a letter/email to my pastor (feel free to adapt and add your personal story or statement) about the climate crisis and ask that they speak about it from the pulpit. Please add LDaction@catholicclimatecovenant.org in the CC field of your email. (We also have the letter available here if Google Docs don’t work for you).
- Form a Creation Care Team (or join an existing one) in my parish/school/community
Systemic (national/global) actions:
- Endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty
- Join the Catholic Encounter Campaign, a coalition of U.S. Catholic groups working together for our Common Home. Join Catholic Climate Covenant and our U.S. Catholic partners for this national campaign for climate solutions.
You can help us do more!
Would you like to help us reach more U.S. Catholics with creation care information and mobilize them to take action on the climate crisis? You can by donating so that our children and their children have a liveable planet to call home.
