Earth Day 2026: A Shared Call to Care for Our Common Home

A joint reflection from Catholic Climate Covenant and Laudato Si’ Movement

On this Earth Day, we give thanks for the gift of creation and renew our shared commitment to care for our common home. As Catholics, we are reminded that creation is not a resource to be used without thought, but a sacred gift entrusted to our care.

In the spirit of Laudato Si’, we are called to an integral ecology — one that connects care for the environment with care for the poor, and recognizes that everything is interconnected. The climate crisis is not distant; it is already affecting communities through extreme weather, rising costs, and growing inequality.

Yet this moment is also one of hope. Across the world, parishes, dioceses, and lay leaders are taking concrete action: reducing emissions, divesting from fossil fuels, restoring ecosystems, educating communities, and advocating for climate justice. In solidarity with the Bishops of the Global South, we hold the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels close in prayer. These efforts show that faith is not passive — it is creative, courageous, and active in love.

As Catholic Climate Covenant and Laudato Si’ Movement, we stand together in supporting this global Church-wide response. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, we seek to empower Catholics everywhere to respond to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.

This Earth Day, we invite every Catholic community to take one step forward — whether planting a garden, starting a creation care team, reducing energy use, or speaking out for just climate policies. Small actions, when joined together, become a powerful witness of hope.

May we continue to walk together in faith, guided by the Spirit, and committed to a future where all of God’s creation can flourish.

“May our struggles and our concern for this planet never take away the joy of our hope.”

Laudato Si’
