“Young hearts are naturally ready to change, to turn back, get up and learn from life.”
When I read this line in Christus Vivit, Pope Francis’s apostolic exhortation addressed to young people, I thought to myself, “Yes! And this is why young people are so critical in the fight for a livable future.”

As I step into the new role of Director of Youth and Young Adult Mobilization with Catholic Climate Covenant, I look forward to building bridges among young people across the country, wherever they find themselves on their journeys of faith and creation care. I want to help them on the path to the ecological conversion which Pope Francis calls for in Laudato Si’.
In our colleges and universities, community organizations, high schools and grade schools, volunteer programs, or the pews, young people are already showing the rest of us how “to change, to turn back, get up and learn from life” when it comes to creation care.
The Church—indeed the world—needs that energy because in the face of our climate crisis we must summon our boldest creativity, our most generous collaboration, and our nimblest adaptation.
Having turned our ears and hearts to hear both the cries of the earth and of the poor—who tell us where to pay attention—we must together find within us the readiness to change the systems that aren’t working. At every turn, youth and young adults are reading the signs of the times and demonstrating the kinds of creative, collaborative, and adaptive solutions our planet requires of us.
At Catholic Climate Covenant, we’re interested in nothing short of building a movement of young Catholics ignited by the joy of the Gospel, attuned to the cries of the earth and the poor, capable of turning back the clock on climate change and creating a livable future. Will you join us?
