At this time of year, I pause to reflect on the generosity of our community and ask for your support in making a gift in this final week of our end-of-year campaign.
(If you prefer to support the Covenant by sending a check, please send one to Catholic Climate Covenant, c/o Franciscan Monastery at 1400 Quincy St., NE Washington, DC 20017.)
Catholic Climate Covenant has big, big plans for 2025: celebrating the global Jubilee of Hope, the 10-year anniversary of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical, Laudato Si’, and the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’ inspired poem, the Canticle of Creation.
All of these programs and resources take effort. So, the impact of your giving is noted and welcomed more than we can say. Thank you for your generosity to our young adult and youth initiatives. Thank you for your support of our webinars, public programs, outreach, and so much more.
We look ahead now to increasing our collaborative work and sharing more about our partnerships. For example, we are working more closely than ever with Laudato Si’ Movement so that there is an even greater impact on our common work in the U.S.
For the past year, over 20 national Catholic groups have been working to discover ways to dramatically increase awareness of and action on Laudato Si’ in the U.S. The theory is that together, we can do far more than apart if we develop true collaboration and have clear goals and objectives in mind. This past summer, the groups settled on a three-year plan consisting of the following:
- In 2025, local groups of Catholics will host “Pilgrimages of Hope” during the Season of Creation (Sept. 1-Oct. 4) in commemoration of the triple celebration of the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’, the special Jubilee Year, and St. Francis’ Canticle of Creation. We believe that solid media coverage of the events will help provide a public witness to the wider community, including Catholics and their leaders, so we can all commit more fully to care for our common home.
- In November of 2026, we are planning a large gathering of concerned Catholics in Baltimore coinciding with the annual gathering of bishops, inviting them to drop by and learn how Catholics across the country are ready to engage in creation care activities with them.
- In 2027, the goal will be to generate dozens of local conferences to provide opportunities for local Catholics to learn real skills to implement Laudato Si’ in parishes, schools, and other institutions.
I hope you are as enthusiastic about 2025 as we are! Please give today to help Catholic Climate Covenant meet these extraordinary objectives.
Thank you,
Dan Misleh
