Janelle Cooney celebrates the leadership and impact of Paz Artaza-Regan, the Covenant’s Program Manager, through her work with the Care for Creation Teams around the U.S. Paz has arranged to have speakers to help Janelle and her peers navigate the Laudato Si’ Action Plan among other topics. Janelle says that Paz’s webinars have been key in expanding her understanding of the issues of climate change and social justice.
“It is so helpful to have easy access to Paz to answer questions, help with problem solving, and then providing fabulous resources,” Janelle said. “I have learned so much from the webinars and from the other participants when we have our conversation meetings. It is educational and reassuring to meet with other group leaders around the U.S. I regularly visit the resources pages on the website. It continues to be an invaluable resource for me as the leader of our team.”
But Janelle knows that without crucial funding and donations that helps bring Paz’s programs to life, many parishes — including her own — might not know where to start when tackling climate change. At her parish, St. John’s Church in Philadelphia, Janelle has seen a difference — thanks to her hard work and the resources and network provided by the Covenant, Janelle partners through her parish with a broader community, including a growing volunteer Creation Care group endorsed by Archbishop Perez. The group, called EcoPhilly, has held annual conferences. At the 2024 conference, Janelle encouraged all attendees to sign their Creation Care Team up with Catholic Climate Covenant so that they, too, can benefit from all of the resources and the community of support.
