When the Oscars were announced this year, “The Letter: A Message For Our Earth,” which “stars” Pope Francis and five ecological activists, didn’t make the cut. But you could make a strong case that the 80-minute documentary inspired by the papal encyclical Laudato Si’ is the most spiritually and ecologically significant film released last year.
From Viatorian News: For the second straight year, Saint Viator High School served as the host site for mobilizing teens around an issue they feel strongly about: climate change. Young people came out of a concern for the environment, but as Catholic high school students they felt a call to respond to Laudato si’: On Care for Our Common Home, the encyclical published in 2015 by Pope Francis.

While talking about soaring corporate profits, he noted that the oil industry took home $200 billion in profits last year. He said executives justified this by telling him they were afraid he would shut down oil refineries anyway, so why would they invest in increasing domestic production?
