Clean Cars Background: The recently passed Inflation Reduction Act includes $369 billion of climate-focused programs expected to help the United States reduce greenhouse emissions by 40% from 2005 levels by 2030. In addition, at COP27 last week, President Biden announced several U.S. climate actions including strengthening methane emissions regulations and increasing global climate investments.

While these actions are significant, the Biden administration needs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by another 10% by the end of the decade to meet its goals and be aligned with international climate scientists’ recommendations.

One of the most effective ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% is to strengthen pollution regulations on cars to be purchased in the United States.
